A Fan Crafted by a Tokyo Workshop Founded in 1590

This fan is crafted by a Tokyo workshop founded in 1590, where folding fans have been made for fourteen generations, including works connected to ukiyo-e masters such as Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi.

Open the fan, and a soft, sandalwood-like scent of Japanese incense rises with the breeze. In Japan, the widening shape of a folding fan is associated with good fortune unfolding, known as sue-hirogari.

Made not for a single season, but as a quiet everyday tool to keep close, bring on your travels, and return to each summer.

Nami Tatewaku Pattern

With rising, curving lines rooted in the Heian period (794–1185), Nami Tatewaku is a traditional Japanese pattern associated with upward movement and prosperity.

Ao-nibi (deep blue-green)

A deep, settled blue with green undertones — a court color from the Heian palette.

Neri-iro (soft cream)

A warm, soft cream named after raw silk, gentler than white.

Since ancient times, the Japanese folding fan has been treasured as a vessel for both cool air and quiet scent.

A 35-rib build (35 ken) — more than a typical 25-rib fan, giving the fan a settled weight in the hand.
